What are the available audience segments in Poool Access?
In addition to context-based segmentation, Poool offers the ability to segment your audience with two types of groups:
- Custom groups
- Native segments
But what is the difference between the two?
Custom groups
Each publisher can configure their own custom segmentation, based on the data they have. This data can be accessible in the Data Layer or provided by a third-party audience segmentation tool.
Custom groups represent sets created based on a specific characteristic. This can be reader-based, for example their origin ("facebook-users"), their likelihood to subscribe ("high-propensity"), their location ("parisian-readers"), etc.
Or it can be linked to the content they want to consume, for example the article type ("trending-topic") or its category ("football-articles").
Our tool is designed to allow you to easily leverage the audience segments you have already identified or generated in your external tools (Data Layer, DMP, segmentation or analytics tools...).
To learn more about how to configure them in the tool, feel free to check out our article How do I create a custom group?
Native segments
In the context configuration, you have the choice: enable native segments, or address all users.
Native segments are audience cohorts automatically created and enriched by Poool based on each reader's engagement. There are 4 types:
- Volatile
- Occasional
- Regular
- Fan
When no custom group is defined, or if a reader does not match any custom group at a given time, then the journeys created in the native segments will be applied.
What's next?
Once your custom groups are created or your native segments are set up, all that's left is to create scenarios!
