What are the actions available?

To configure your different Poool scenarios, you need to choose which action to offer the reader.

9 different widgets are available:

Here's an overview of each of these widgets!

Non-blocking widgets

Possible use cases: metered journeys, unlocking for a specific segment...

Auto unlock

When the user arrives on the article, the content is automatically unlocked and a message informs them of the number of articles they have left to read.

It is possible to adjust the banner display time on the technical side. Here is the related documentation.

Invisible unlock

This widget unlocks an article in an "invisible" way, without any blocking or information display. It remains completely transparent to the user.

On the Poool side, we count an invisible unlock from the moment the user has scrolled on the article.

Free article

This widget offers a simple action from the user, without any data contribution on their part. On click, it triggers the article unlock.

Data collection widgets

Possible use cases: registration wall, newsletter subscription, user information collection.

Newsletter subscription

The newsletter subscription widget unlocks the article for the user who chooses to subscribe via the widget.

Form

This widget offers the user to fill in a form to access the article.

Discovery pass

The discovery pass invites the reader to try a free subscription for a limited period of time.

To learn more about the Discovery pass, feel free to check out our dedicated article: How do I create a Discovery pass?

Survey

Ask your readers questions.

Blocking widgets

Use cases: account creation or subscription.

URL discovery

With this action, you can invite your users to visit a page of your choice.

It is commonly used for account creation purposes, to redirect to a sign-up/login page on your side.

Subscription

This widget offers the reader to discover your subscription offers in order to unlock the article. It redirects to your subscription page URL.

In the "Edit widget" function, you can configure these redirect URLs based on your strategy.

Setting up an alternative action

For a number of widgets, it is possible to configure an alternative action. This feature allows you to give the user a choice of action, to avoid having a completely blocking action in their browsing experience.

For example: subscription widget with an "invisible unlock" alternative action. The user has the choice: click on the "discover offers" link or on "no thanks" to unlock the article.

The alternative action is configured in the "Edit a widget" screen.

How does the progression from one widget to another work?

The user progresses through a scenario from the moment they have completed the first proposed action.

  • Scenario example 1: Free article then subscription > The user will be shown the subscription wall after clicking the button to "enjoy the free article".
  • Scenario example 2: Two invisible unlocks then subscription > The user will be shown the subscription wall after having viewed two pages beforehand.
