How can I set up triggers?

A trigger allows you to configure a unique action based on the source of your readers.

It can address two needs: offering an article unlock for a user coming from an identified source, or on the contrary blocking them with a subscription wall.

The trigger feature allows you to configure a single action, based on the source. If you want to apply a multi-step journey based on the user's origin, you will need to use a custom context.

Creating a trigger

When creating a trigger, define a value.

This value will need to be added to your URLs with one of the following:

  • the parameter "utm_source=value"

Example URL: https://www.my-media.com/my-article?utm_source=newsletter1

  • the parameter "utm_campaign=value"
  • the parameter "utm_medium=value"
  • the parameter "xtor=value" (when using AT Internet tracking)

Example URL: https://www.my-media.com/my-article#xtor=newsletter1

When using "#xtor", it is recommended to place it at the end of the URL for the trigger to work correctly.

In this example, we configure a trigger for a user identified as coming from the Newsletter-1 source

How does it work?

When a reader arrives on your content, Poool will search the URL for the presence of a utm_source or xtor parameter.

If it exists, Poool will compare its value with the triggers defined in your Dashboard. If a trigger is configured, then the chosen action will be displayed to the reader.

If you have other active settings in your Dashboard, the trigger will be applied as a priority.

Where can I track my trigger's performance?

Trigger statistics are not tracked in Poool. No data will be available in the Dashboard. You will therefore need to rely on your analytics tools to track the performance of this activation.
