It is not always an easy thing to go on with graphical personalization of the paywall and get a clear vision of how they could actually look like on the website. Two features can be very useful for your to reach that goal.

1st solution: previewing widgets on the Dashboard

This feature is available on your Dashboard. Previewing helps you check how every widget will look like depending on any graphical personalization you've set up.

You can find the preview module on the right of the page. It follows your scroll and updates any time you edit the personalization. It allows you to preview every widget (unfolding the dropdown menu), on mobile and on desktop (by clicking on corresponding icons).

Please note this preview features uses a fake article content in the background, so you can check how your personalized widgets will look like but not how they will display on your website, when they will be implemented to your article template with its column width, its fonts, its colors, its advertising inserts, and so on.

For example, being able to see how your personalized paywall could look like on desktop with the preview mode does not prevent it to be displayed only in the mobile format in the end if the width of your article column is really small.

2nd solution: testing a scenario directly on your website

If you need to check how a specific widget -or even a whole scenario- will look like on your website, you can use the "Scenario testing" feature.

This "testing" feature is available on the Scenarios section of your Dashboard, after clicking on the 3-dots icon displayed on the right of the corresponding scenario. We've written an article dedicated to this feature: "How do I test the different steps of a scenario?"

Doing so, you can make sure that the whole reader experience, on a visual level, is perfect.

Be careful. The "testing" feature does not prevent the design (graphical personalization / paywall appearance) to be seen live and seen by your entire audience. The fact that testing is "invisible" only involves the scenario process: the feature allows you to put yourself in a reader's shoes, experiencing a specific scenario within a specific segment.

If you need to check your design modifications on your website, even before going live, you'll need to do it on a preprod environment. You also could ask your IT team to create a specific Poool app, dedicated to design tests, and which would be implemented on a hidden page of your website. This action would be a little bit constraining obviously, but it would give you a lot of autonomy in the medium term.
