To add an extra level of granularity to element targeting, you can also activate “AND” and “OR” condition groups.
By default, your settings apply using a cumulative “AND” logic. Keep in mind that if one condition cannot be verified at the same time as another (for example: show once per day and hide on a specific URL), you should use an “OR” condition group.
To access this, select the “advanced” mode when adding a condition.
You can choose between:
AND condition group (combination of conditions)
OR condition group (mutual exclusion between conditions)
AND Condition Group
The AND condition group allows you to combine multiple conditions together.
The element will only be displayed if ALL conditions linked by the AND are met. If any condition in the group is not met, the element will not be shown.
OR Condition Group
This condition group allows you to include multiple display conditions without restricting each other.
The OR condition works when you do not want to favor a combination of conditions but an exclusion. Thus, the element will be displayed when only one of the conditions in the group is met.
Using OR is particularly useful when targeting multiple matches for the same condition.
For example:
Target multiple page sets that do not share the same URL paths, such as
/environment/and/policy/Display an element for traffic from Google or Bing
Reach readers whose IP address is in France or Belgium
Exclude certain groups or traffic sources using the “hide” property
And that’s everything you need to know about combining conditions. Now it’s your turn! 🙂
