In order to configure the different Poool scenarios, you have to choose which widgets to put where. This article will give you the information needed to understand the different actions that are on offer.

Offered post
This will give the reader an article without them having to give any data in exchange. They simply have to click on a button. The aim of this is to engage the user by giving them the read for free. This widget is made up of two elements: the welcome bar and the widget.
Welcome bar
We realized that one of the problems with today's paywalls is the lack of visibility. The rate of visibility (readers scrolling down far enough to see the paywall) rarely goes past 30%.
The welcome bar therefore lets the reader know that the article is being given to them for free and invites them to scroll down to see the paywall.
This highlights how important the first action of the journey is. Once the process has started, the user will begin to be more engaged and loyal to this particular media site.
Widget
The free article doesn't have any specific configuration, but you do have the possibility to modify the text by clicking on 'avanced'. This gives you the possibility of testing out different messages.
Commercial
With Poool, you can monetize further thanks to the option of using an advert within the widget. The aim of this is to give the reader the option of watching a video in exchange for an article.
VAST
In order to integrate VAST, go to the left-hand menu bar, select 'Settings' and scroll to the bottom of the page until you see 'Commercials'.
Have a look at our other articles on the VAST mobile and URL's.
You're all set! From here, if your VAST is accurately recieving videos, all should work well.
Similarly to a free article, there isn't any specific configuration for this widget, this is all done in the general options. However, by clicking on 'Advanced' you will be able to change the text (widget and video player).
Survey
We created the survey widget so that the editors can directly ask questions to their audience in a way that isn't intrusive and respects their user experience. The aim is not only to collect responses but also to ensure they're as honest as possible.
By putting this action in a known environment, the user is less inclined to give a false response. This also helps to develop a trusting publisher-reader relationship.
This screen also allows you to modify the wording used. Editing of surveys can be done in the section labelled 'Survey editing' in the left-hand menu.

Newsletter subscription
The newsletter subscription widget gives a little less information than the others.
ID and name of the newsletter
You have the chance here to add an ID of the newsletter (E.g. nl_Daily) and its name (E.g. The Daily newsletter). This allows you to match these email addresses to any data lists that you already have.
In order to download the email address list, head to the section 'Statistics'.
Alternative
For some widgets, Poool lets the reader choose an alternative action. The aim of this is to not frustrate the user and so encourage them to stay on the site.
By default, the alternative is a video advert but this can be n changed. You can choose to add the alternative of a survey, a free article or, if nothing else, simply that they have to give their email address.
In the same way as the other widgets, you can modify the text by clicking on 'Advanced'.
The settings for the boxes that need to be ticked for data protection reasons can be found in the 'Messages' section.
Automatic unlock
We have made the 'Automatic unlock' available in order to created the 'Metered' journey.
When the user arrives at the article, it will be automatically unblocked and a message will let them know how many article they have left to read. By clicking on 'Advanced', you can even modify these texts.
Invisible unlock
This is the same as above, but invisible ;)
It might be useful for you to do A/B tests between the articles locked and unlocked.
Subscription (suggested or required)
In order to introduce subscription to a user, we have created two widgets:
'Suggested subscription' or 'Required subscription'
The difference between the two is the option of offering an alternative (similar to the 'Newsletter' widget) which comes with the 'Suggested subscription' widget. This allows you to show a reader your subscription offers whilst still giving them the option of unlocking the article if none of the offers are of interest to them.
Distinguish between the offers
For each widget, you can define the URL for the subscription. This will lead them towards temporary pages with specific prices. The aim of this is that you can test out different offers for different segments.
HINT: you can add in a return URL if needed. to do this, add ?ma_variable={return_url} at the end of your subscription URL.
Example : http://mysite.fr?return_url={return_url}
Discovery URL
It is also possible to encourage readers to visit any URL that you choose. The aim of this is to incite clicks and views on a certain page in line with your stategic objectives. For example, you may wish to generate traffic on a subscription site or a landing page.
Once you have drag-and-dropped the widget 'Discovery URL' into your journey, you can then personalize the title, the subheading, the URL and the action. The statistics of the clicks on the buttons are available in the 'Statistics' section of the dashboard, 'Performance of actions'.
Discovery Pass
The 'Discovery pass' invites a reader to test subscription for free for a limited amount of time. Don't forget to create a discovery pass scenario (head to the Help center for more information) and asign it an automatic switch group which will automatically lead the reader to the 'Discovery pass' scenario when they end up on the discovery pass widget.
